About Rozely Vigas
Rozely Vigas holds a B.A. in History from the Teacher Training College (FFP) at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ, 2007), as well as an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Social History from the same institution (2012 and 2019). Her doctoral dissertation, titled As mônicas no Vale dos Lírios: das 'santas' fundadoras às freiras sublevadas do Monte Santo em Goa, de 1606 a 1738, focuses on the history of the Augustinian nuns in Goa. Currently, she is a Professor and Postdoctoral Researcher in Asian History at the Institute of Philosophy and the Human Sciences at the University of Campinas (IFCH-UNICAMP, 2024–2026). As a scholar of Palaeography, she teaches courses on the reading and transcription of manuscripts from the 16th to the 20th centuries. She coordinates the outreach projects Modernidades Manuscritas and the podcast Falando de Ásia.... Previously, she served as a Substitute Professor at UERJ-FFP (2022–2023) and as a Postdoctoral Researcher at IFCH-UNICAMP (2020–2022). She was awarded the Prix international d’encouragement aux études postdoctorales by the Fonds de Dotation de l’EHESS, in collaboration with the P. Manuel Antunes European Institute of Cultural Sciences, the International Society for Jesuit Studies (SIEJ), and the CIDH-Universidade Aberta. She is a member of the organizing committee for the research network Visões da Ásia and the Latin American Association of Asian and African Studies – Brazil (ALADAA-Brasil). She has authored several book chapters and articles on female conventual life in Portuguese Asia and is the author of the book Nas clausuras de Goa: a comunidade das mônicas no Monte Santo e sua economia espiritual (1606-1721) (2023).
