This new book by Rafael Ramis Barceló, deputy director of the IEHM, is entitled La Segunda Escolástica. A proposal for historical synthesis. This publication, the result of many years of study, is the first manual that deals historically with the second scholasticism, with a definition, a study proposal, a periodization and a causal analysis, covering from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century, with an appendix on the third scholasticism.
The book is included in the collection of monographs on the History of Universities published by Dykinson and is part of the project “Confictos singulares para juzgar, arbitrar o concordar (siglos XII-XX)”, directed by Josep Capdeferro and Rafael Ramis himself, and which is also funded by the Prometeo 2022 program (CIPROM/2021/028) of the Conselleria de Innovación, Universidades, Ciencia y Sociedad Digital de la Generalitat valenciana (Regional Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society of the Valencian Government).
Rafael Ramis Barceló holds degrees in Law, Philosophy, Comparative Literature, Political Science and Sociology and a PhD in Law from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. He has been academic coordinator of the CMU Penyafort-Montserrat of the University of Barcelona. He has furthered his studies in London, Rome, Munich, Freiburg, and at the Max-Planck Institute for the History of European Law in Frankfurt. Since 2010 he is Professor of History of Law at the Universitat de les Illes Balears and in 2022 he became a Professor of History of Law and Institutions at the University of the Balearic Islands.
